Magobading village in Limpopo, a household has been affected by floods after heavy rains occurs in Easter holidays, while the community recovering from relocation impact as a results of Anglo platinum (Twickenham mine ) operations, is now in resentful.

It was on Sunday 5Th April when a heavy poured for that whole day. During an interview with the affected family claims that an uncontrollable large amount of water penetrated underneath the doors and damage their furniture's like sofas, beds and a computer." we tried all the means to stop them but failed and it was because the foundation structure was very low" said the disgruntled owner Jack Mahlakwana. They claims this issue happens for a second time as that in 2008 the same problem was occurred, says during 2008 they engage with Anglo about that matter, so the company provided them with accommodation for a week until their place get dried and promise to refund for any losses discovered, but that was a blatant lies. We feel so intimidated about their lies and think if they don't want rebuild our house as promised, it is better to move us back to our ancestral land" said a stressed family member.

According to the residents claims that every houses has common problems like roof leakages and that it selfish to engage with Anglo because they will just come to the scene and use their propaganda language without any proof written down and left the place forever.Does this show humanity to the community, while lost their wealthy land?

Community leader feel sidelined and victimised

The project initiated by Anglo platinum, in Magobading-limpopo province has left some of the community members disgruntled. Apparently this community which was moved to pave way for platinum extraction, has suffered poor workmanship of about twelve houses. The rebuilding projects of this houses started last.Jerry Tshetlhakgolo, was reportedly elected by the community to be the Community liaison officer of the project under auspices of Staffanuti Stock housing (pty)Ltd.As the Community Liaison officer he claimed be disgruntled by this project, he has inform us that he was unfairly treated, denied salary for a period of eight months.
The debacle to get the responsible people answerable, went unheeded. To get the matter attended, Mr Tshetlhakgolo told us that he has taken pains to inform Anglo platinum Office of Marry-Jane Morifi, and with no luck, he got no response. Of late Jerry has reported to have taken the matter to Mr Steven Bullock's office. As for Jerry he remain disgruntled with no pay after the service given for eight months.

Termites attack in Magobading(MECKLENGBURG A)

Magobading village in Limpopo, has been attacked by ant like insects called termites. The said insects are destroying roofs of two houses, eating out woods which balance the zinc.
Magobadingg community which is recovering from relocation impact as result of Anglo platinum( Twickenham Mine) operations, is now again in distress.

Apparently this started on the 12th of December 2009 after the poor house owners were surprised to see a ceilings falls off, subsequently the huge amount of wet soil came down from the roofs. It is also witnessed that the woods were also eaten up by this insects.
" I feel terrible about this problem and afraid of living under this roof anymore and we were just fortunate when it occurs because it was during the day and everyone was outside" said fearful Mohube Thobejane.

During my visit I was surprised to see such unusual and strange thing . It is evident that the people are living in threatening environment. The resident has claimed that the soil was not properly treated before the houses were build.Though the residents claimed that they have contacted Anglo's Community Engagement Development Manager and the Senior Projects Manager, the response to the took long to reach us. " they verbally promised us the alternative apartments urgently, and that they will have to remove the whole roof and put another one" said Mrs Moshiane Sekiti, an affected owner.

Resident has fears that Anglo is running away from their responsibilities. The question which sit with the community is, is it a solution to put roof ? Are termites not going to eat up the roof again as they seem to be the real source?
